Challu,(UWR), Nov. 26, GNA – Mr Justin Frimpong Kodua, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has asked Muslims to support Dr Bawumia to become the first Muslim President in Ghana since 1957.
He made the call at Challu in the Sissala East Municipality during a campaign tour of the area.
He said the issue about this year’s election would be that from 1957 to now, the country had been governed by only Christians.
“This year, the history will be that we Christians feel that it is time for a Muslim to become a president for Ghana because we are all one people.
“If, Allah is there for all of us, then it’s time for a Muslim to lead Ghana. It is the reason why we, the NPP, elected a Muslim to lead the NPP party,” he said.
Mr Kodua argued further that “For me, everyone knows where I come from; I am an Ashanti and a Christian, we have two leading candidates in this election, after the December 7 elections, the winner of the elections would be a Northerner, that alone is not the history, the history would be that, we Christians think it’s time for a Muslim to become the President.”
He said as Muslims, it was important to help their brother, adding that If Muslims do not get up and support the bid of the Vice President, it may take another 60 years to get this opportunity for a Muslim to be elected president.
In Nigeria, leadership is shared between Muslims and Christians; Ghanaians should also learn from that, Mr Kodua stated.
“I wished we held the elections today to show the NDC that Dr Bawumia and Chinnia are winning the elections.”
He said, “A vote for Dr Bawumia would secure a better future for your kids.”
He noted that Dr Bawumia, if elected, would be President for four years and another four years rather than former President John Mahama, who can only be President for four years.
“Even if you are an NDC and a Muslim, I will entreat you to vote for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to be the first Muslim president of Ghana,” he said.
Mr Amidu Chinnia Issahaku, the Member of Parliament for the Sissala East constituency, pleaded with the constituents to vote massively to retain him to continue with his development agenda.
