Accra, Nov. 11, GNA – The Indian High Commissioner in Ghana, His Excellency Manish Gupta, hosted the Strongroom Cricket Club and the leadership of the Ghana Cricket Association to a cocktail evening to socialise and network about the sport.
The evening formed part of the events to mark the successful hosting of the Strongroom Cricket Club’s tour in Ghana from North London in the United Kingdom.
The tour saw them play six friendly matches in Accra and at Obuasi where they won two and lost four.
Mr. Jon Gower, team leader, said they were pleased to visit Ghana and thanked the High Commissioner for hosting them to a fulfilling evening.
He mentioned that they would engage possible Ghanaian cricketers based in the UK to collaborate and support the growth of cricket in Ghana.
“I am sure there are some Ghanaian cricketers in the UK and if this is something the GCA will look out for they can form a team and invite local based cricketers to play in London,” he explained.
The GCA President, Mr. Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah Asare on behalf of the leadership of the GCA thanked the High Commissioner for hosting the team and explained that this was a beginning of greater things to happen to the GCA.
He explained that Ghana had for the first time since 1998 played an international friendly match and expressed gratitude to the Strongroom Cricket Club for touring Ghana.
He said the GCA was open to effective collaborations that will be of mutual benefit.
The High Commissioner, H.E Manish Gupta said with India being a powerhouse in the sport of cricket, he deemed it a pleasure to be part of the historic moment hence organising a cocktail to foster networking and socialisation among the three entities.
He assured them of the High Commission’s support to the development of the sport in Ghana.
