Belgrade, Nov. 28, (dpa/GNA) – The Hungarian opposition Tisza Party, led by former government insider Péter Magyar, has increased its lead over Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz in the polls, according to a new survey by the Budapest-based Median research institute.
The results, released on Thursday, show that if elections were held on Sunday, 47% would vote for the Tisza Party, also known as the Respect and Freedom Party, and only 36% for Fidesz.
A month ago, the Tisza Party was polling seven percentage points ahead of Fidesz.
Magyar emerged as a critic and challenger of right-wing populist Orbán earlier this year, when he took over the Tisza Party.
It won 30% of the vote in the European elections in June, entering the European Parliament as part of the centre-right European People’s Party.
The next parliamentary elections in Hungary are scheduled for the spring of 2026.
