Berekum, (B/R), Nov. 6, GNA-Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene, the Bono Regional Minister, says the government remains thoughtful in enhancing the welfare of teachers in the country.
She commended teachers for their immeasurable contributions towards the progressive development of education and assured that the government would do its best to improve their conditions of service too.
Mad Owusu-Bananehe said the government had invested substantially in the nation’s educational sector to improve quality education and urged teachers to redouble their efforts to improve academic performance of students and pupils.
The Regional Minister gave the assurance during at a get-together and awards ceremony organised by some teachers in Berekum in the region to recognise and appreciate some deserving teachers in the Berekum municipality.
“The government values the general welfare of teachers and is working diligently to address the concerns of teachers in the country”, Mad Owusu-Banahene stated, saying President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo remained committed to enhancing the condition of service of teachers.
She explained that the government was still working through various Agencies and Departments to improve the teaching and learning environment.
These include improving educational infrastructure as implementation of policies aimed at improving professional development and the general wellbeing of teachers.
“The huge investments in the education sector reflect the government’s dedication to the profession”, Mad Owusu-Banahene stated, saying the “concerns of teachers are always prioritised”.
She said the government initiatives such as the provision of laptops to teachers through the “One Teacher, One Laptop” programme was all incentive packages designed to motivate teachers.
Mad Owusu-Banahene therefore called on teachers to support the government efforts at helping to provide quality education and ensuring that they voted to retain the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government during the polls on December 7.
That would enable the Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to win the general election and continue with the good works of the government towards bettering the lives of teachers and the citizenry.
