GNA reporters, stringers, interns in Tamale undergo training on elections reporting

Tamale, Nov 28, GNA – Reporters, stringers, interns and National Service Personsat the Tamale office of the Ghana News Agency (GNA) have undergone a day’s training to build their capacity on how to report on the upcoming general election.

The training, organised by the Management of GNA, was also to equip the beneficiaries with basic knowledge and fair appreciation of the dynamics in the various constituencies in the Northern, North East and Savannah Regions.

Mr. Eric Amoh, Northern Regional Manager of GNA, who facilitated the training, said it was to ensure that reporters demonstrated a high level of professionalism to bring the necessary information to members of the public.

He underscored the need for them to pay attention to details and be accurate on number of voters, total votes cast, spoilt and rejected ballots and other issues of interest to develop balanced report on the election.

He spoke on the personal safety of the reporters, especially at hotspot areas, urging them to be conscious of their environment to be safe and secure to report on the elections.

He emphasised that “It is not in your position to declare the winner of the elections. Focus on getting the information on the ground and let the mandated institution do the declaration.”

Mr. Amoh tasked them to report early to the polling stations and endeavour to build rapport with the officials at the polling stations to enhance their timely access to information on the elections.

Mr. Albert Futukpor, Editor at the GNA Tamale office, who took the participants through overview of elections coverage in the region, advised them to know the details of all the candidates in the elections to better report about them during the elections.

The 2024 general election is scheduled for December 7, with a total of 31 constituencies in the Northern, North East and Savannah Regions, which fall under the Tamale office of the GNA to be covered.
