Ghana’s Laryea secures unanimous win over Mejia in first USA bout

Accra, Nov. 02, GNA – Ghanaian boxer and WBO African Featherweight Champion John Laryea (14-0-1, 12 KOs) remained unbeaten after defeating Nicaraguan boxer Alexander Mejia in a featherweight contest. 

Laryea, who was competing for the first time in the United States, marked his debut with an excellent performance at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida, on Friday, November 1, 2024.   

The Ghanaian boxer, nicknamed “Expensive Boxer,” demonstrated his incredible skills and sent the Nicaraguan boxer down to the canvas in the latter stages of the first round. 

He went on to dominate the next rounds, impressing the judges and winning by unanimous decision. 

With seasoned Carl Lokko in his corner, Laryea demonstrated why he should be regarded a world title contender, exciting thousands of fans at the Caribe Royale. 

The 22-year-old Ghanaian boxer has proclaimed his desire to win a world title for Ghana in his next few fights, and a victory over Meija might land him a title eliminator soon.
