EP Church marks 177th Anniversary celebration with honorary awards

Takoradi, Nov. 18, GNA – The Central-Western Presbytery of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Ghana (EPCG), has commemorated its 177th Anniversary with honorary awards to some congregations, groups and individuals for their commitment and dedication to the growth of the Church. 

The maiden event was not only to recognise the exceptional achievements of committed groups and members, but also to serve as a platform for innovation, foster teamwork and propel the growth of the church.  

Held at the Presbytery’s Headquarters in Takoradi, the ceremony was on the theme: “Your service to God and humanity today will be remembered tomorrow.” 

In all eight congregations, 12 groups, and 10 individuals who distinguished themselves during the year under review were awarded.  

They were presented with citations, trophies, plaques and certificates of recognition.  

Mr Samuel Agbottah, received the Most Distinguished and Committed Donor to Church’s Projects award, and Mr Matthew Agbanyo, also took home the Most Diligent and Committed Catechist in the Central-Western Presbytery award.  

Other awardees were Anyinebrim Congregation, as the Best Performing Congregation to Weekly Bible Service, and Bronikrom Congregation, as the best congregation using various modern technology for in-house and outdoor evangelism, with other congregations also recognised for their good works to the church.  

Special awards were presented to Mr Francis Amedahe from the Good Shepherd Congregation as the Illustrious and Versatile member of the Presbytery, and the Reverend Andrews K. Mensah, as the Valuable, Tireless and Selfless Pioneer Synod Moderator. 

The Reverend Gustav Dedjoe-Djokotoe, the Synod Moderator of the EPCG, said the awards were to honour and show appreciation to the winners for their great contributions towards the growth and development of the Church.  

He said: “A country that does not honour its heroes is not worth dying for, so it’s in order that we honour our heroes for their hard work and encourage them to do more.” 

He mentioned that the event would be held annually as a way of motivating the members to give their best to the service of the church.  

He expressed gratitude to some corporate organisations that supported the church to successfully organise the event. 

Nana Ette Akrade II, the Gwira Ninfahene, who chaired the occasion, commended the EPCG for recognising the hard work of its members, and encouraged the leadership of the church to replicate the gesture annually.  

Mr Samuel Agbottah, one of the awardees, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency on the sidelines, expressed great excitement for the honour done him, and prayed for others to also benefit as they continued to work for the growth of the Church.
