Ho, Nov 27, GNA – The Volta Regional Elections Taskforce has taken custody of ballot materials for the Region.
The materials, which include presidential and parliamentary ballot papers arrived in the Region at about 21:45 hours on Tuesday, and was under the watch of security personnel at the Regional Command in Ho.
Officials of the Electoral Commission, and various political party representatives came together Wednesday morning to receive and inspect the materials.
Once satisfied, they would be kept in the armoury of the Police Command ahead of the December 07 elections.
Mr. Kofi Dzakpasu, Regional Director of the EC, briefing parties ahead of the exercise, said the two trucks contained a total 186 sacks holding ballot materials for the presidential elections, while parliamentary election materials were being held in a total 70 sacks, all fitted with seals of various parties.
The bags would be aggregated into constituencies and two agents each from the various parties would inspect the contents and reseal them for storage.
Mr. Dzakpasu said each party and the security agencies, election observers have been served details of the consignment.
He said ballots for the special voting exercise were also contained in the package and urged parties to check ballot statistics and loading summary provided.
EC officials for the constituencies were present to oversee the process, which involves scrutiny of details on the ballot papers.
DCOP Andrews Boadu-Ekumah, Head of the Regional Elections Security Taskforce, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency commended various stakeholders and gave an assurance that the EC would conduct an incident free election.
Officials from the CODEO were also present.
