Keta (VR) Nov 29, GNA – Mr Anthony Dagadu, a Governance Expert, in the Volta Region has urged the Electoral Commission of Ghana to exercise patient with the release of election results after the general polls.

This, he said, would help the EC do all the necessary calculations and corrections before the release of the actual election results in order not to create tension among political parties and the public.

Mr Dagadu, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, advised the EC to do all the needed cross-checking and come out with the results to prevent a repeat of what transpired in the 2020 election, where the results were announced more than once.

“The tension in this year’s election is very high and l plead with the EC to produce a credible, correct and straight forward results that would not create any speculation and anxiety among citizens,” he stated.

He said that many citizens and political party faithful would have confidence in the works of the Electoral Commission if credible results were announced without any speculation or allegations of bias.

He said that “the New Patriotic Party want to break the eight, the National Democratic Congress want to win back power, other parties are also pushing harder, and this is the more reason the EC must be more transparent with their activities to prevent any unforeseen tension.”

Mr Dagadu said that Ghanaians would be happier to received credible and transparent result if it would even take the EC one week to produce a credible and correct results than to be in haste to release results that would be full of errors.

He said many youths were losing trust in the EC especially with the recent errors in printing and reprinting of ballot papers that belong to some constituencies and the EC must rebuild a stronger bond and trust with electorate before the general elections.

He commended flagbearers of various political parties for signing the peace pact that showed their commitment to peaceful election ahead of the general polls on December 7.

He also charged the youths to abide by rules and regulations governing the elections and avoid unnecessary chaos that could jeopardise the exercise.

Mr Dagadu appealed to the security agencies to be up to the task to prevent any unfortunate disturbances that may soil the elections.
