EC engages GJA, GIBA on media accreditation to results collation centres

Accra, Nov 27, GNA – The Electoral Commission (EC) is holding discussions with the leadership of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) to address concerns regarding media accreditation for election results collation centres during the electoral process.

In a statement signed by Mr. Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations at the EC, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, the Commission acknowledged receiving numerous calls from media partners regarding quotas allocated to media houses for access to its collation centres at the district and regional levels.

“Since the memo directing our staff at the district and regional levels to select media houses for accreditation was made public, we have received concerns from our media partners about the quotas granted.

“As a listening Commission, we are engaging with the leadership of the GJA and GIBA on this matter and trust that we will arrive at a workable and acceptable arrangement,” the statement said.

The Commission emphasized its commitment to ensuring the highest level of transparency in its operations, which includes opening all Constituency, Regional, and National Collation Centres to the media.

The EC reiterated its dedication to fostering a transparent electoral process and maintaining constructive partnerships with the media to enhance public trust.
