Detsekorpe- Ada, Nov. 25, GNA— Nene Verya Ozor II, Chief of Detsekorpe in the Ada East District of the Greater Accra Region, has organised a free National Health Insurance (NHIS) registration and renewal of cards for some community members.

The exercise also benefitted residents of nearby communities, including Asigbekorpe, Tugakorpe, Kpodokorpe, Kasseh, and others.

Nene Ozor, who is also a health worker, said many people who visited the health centres and hospitals complained of financial constraints to either enroll onto the NHIS card, or renew their NHIS membership cards.

According to him, they always got stranded and resorted to calling on him to intervene, hence the need to embark on the exercise to get them enrolled onto the NHIS system.

Nene Ozor said:” I will try and do this every year to help my people. I am here to serve them, and so I will do everything in my power to make sure they are healthy, strong, and poised to make a change in the community.

“I want to encourage them to help each other in the community to promote unity, peace, and stability.”.

He commended the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) officials for the timeliness of their work, good working relations, and dedication despite the distraction by the rain.

Mr. Emmanuel Nyame, Public Relations Officer, NHIA, Dangme East District, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that, during the exercise, about one hundred persons were enrolled into the system while about two hundred people had their membership renewed.

He said the gesture, which was very significant, benefitted all age categories, adding that all costs were catered for by the chief.

Mr. Raphael Doetse, a beneficiary who had his card renewed, told the GNA that due to the expiration of his NHIS membership, he had to pay a huge medical bill when he was involved in a motor crash last month, noting that the exercise had brought relief to him.

Other beneficiaries noted that they took advantage of the exercise to renew the cards of relatives who had their membership expired.
