Kiev, Nov. 5, (dpa/GNA) – At least six people have died due to Russian shelling in the south-eastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhya, officials said on Tuesday.
The number of injured has reportedly risen to 16, the military governor of the region, Ivan Fedorov, said on his Telegram channel.
The General Prosecutor’s Office in Kiev said 20 people had been injured.
Fedorov also wrote, “A fire has broken out at the site of impact: These are the preliminary consequences of the enemy attack on Zaporizhzhya.”
The attack occurred on Tuesday morning. According to Ukrainian reports, an infrastructure object in the city was among the targets hit.
Zaporizhzhya is situated only about 30 kilometres from the front line. The city is frequently shelled by Russian troops, resulting in many civilian casualties.
Russian President Vladimir Putin annexed the entire Zaporizhzhya region in the autumn of 2022 and has claimed it for Russia, although his troops do not control all of it.
