Ho, Nov. 22 GNA – Right Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. Bliss Divine Agbeko (Rtd), Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG) Thursday advised Christians to let their kingdom lives and deeds reveal light to the world.
“As Christians we are to illuminate the world with our lives and deeds,” he said.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. Agbeko gave the advice on the last day of a three-day Southern Territory Pastors Conference of Compassion International Ghana (CIGH) at the Volta Serene Hotel in Ho.
It was on the theme “20 years of service in child and youth transformation: sustaining our gains through effective partnership.”
Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. Agbeko, who spoke on the theme “a light on the hill” taken from the gospel of Saint Matthew chapter 5 verse 14 to 16 stated that Christians should be identified by their deeds at all spheres of life and wherever they found themselves.
“Christianity is not in words but in the good deeds that we do to men,” he said.
Today he said all types of characters who themselves needed the kingdom light called themselves Christians and urged people to identify them as such.
The Moderator noted that such charlatans were leading people who were living in darkness into more darkness adding that no wonder society was witnessing an increase in all forms of anti-social vices.
“When light is withdrawn people begin running for safety because where there is light there is no fear,” he stated.
He said, “our lives as Christians must affect others positively by revealing the light in us to them thereby bringing them to Jesus Christ.”
The Moderator called on Christians to conform to the tenets of the teachings of Jesus Christ to alleviate others from spiritual and physical poverty.
He reminded them that Jesus’ ministry was beyond boundaries so their Christian life should benefit others despite race, gender, ethnicity, or religion.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. Agbeko told the Pastors that God entrusted them with Christlike light so their deeds should bring glory and honour to him and not to themselves.
He reminded them that if they used the “small opportunities” God gave them to benefit others and brought Glory to Him, He would lift them higher.
The Moderator also told them not to use their positions to oppress the poor by extorting money from them reminding them that “God is God of justice and the oppressed who would respond to their cries.”
He said the difference between the local churches and CIGH was that while the local churches extract money from the poor to enrich themselves, CIGH was using its resources to release children from poverty.
CIGH is a child development Non-Governmental Organization that collaborate with churches by providing them with funds, logistics and training to release children from poverty in Jesus name.
It is divided into three territories made up of the Southern, Central and Northern territories.
CIGH which was established in Ghana in 2005 will celebrate its 25 years of existence next year.
