Sozopol, on the Black Sea, Nov 18 (BTA/GNA) – The Sozopol Municipal Council on Monday decided to place a bronze sculpture at the entrance to the seaside town at the initiative of the Lighthouse of Apollonia Association. The monument of an ancient resident of the town playing a harp will also function as a sundial.
Lighthouse of Apollonia Association Chair Yordan Iliev noted that all passers-by will be able to photograph the monument, which could enhance tourists’ interest in culture, history and add value to their summer vacation. The goal is to acquaint tourists with local history and spread the riches of Sozopol in the field of art and archaeology, he said.
The figure will be placed near the Harmani beach and the archaeological findings in the ancient necropolis Via Sacra, where more than 1,000 tombs, structures and remains of funerary and memorial rites have been discovered.
The project is funded by the Lighthouse of Apollonia Association. Georgi Andonov has been chosen to be the sculptor.
