Kwabeng (E/R), Nov. 10, GNA – The Atiwa West District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has met with heads of religious bodies at Kwarbeng in the Atiwa District of the Eastern Region.
The meeting was geared towards promoting a violence free election during the upcoming general elections on December 7.
The programme on the theme: “Together we can build Ghana, so get involved” resonates the collective responsibility of citizen in shaping the country’s democratic process.
Inter-faith collaborations serve as a cornerstone in promoting harmony, understanding and unity among different religious communities, and laying the groundwork for peaceful and inclusive elections.
In a speech by Mr. Joseph Owusu, Atiwa West District Director of NCCE, said as a Ghanaian society, the significance of inter-faith engagements in fostering peaceful elections could not be overstated, hence the engagement.
He said the NCCE together with the Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) executives had visited some churches and mosques to engage members on key topics for peaceful elections.
These topics include religious tolerance, misinformation, disinformation, money in politics and electoral violence.
Mr. Owusu said fostering dialogue and understanding among different communities were paramount to the commission and called on all to get involved.
He said embracing diversity and celebrating religious pluralism not only enriched the democratic process but also laid the foundation for peaceful co-existence and unity.
He explained that the Inter-faith collaborations could played a vital role in disseminating accurate information and countering false narratives that might fuel division and conflict among citizens.
He added that addressing the specter of electoral violence required collective efforts of all segments of the society.
Representatives of faith-based organizations such as Assemblies of God church, St. Nicholas Central Mosque, Central Mosque and Sabon Zongo mosques participated in the forum.
Others included Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, National Intelligence Bureau, Electoral Commission and National Disaster Management Organisation.
