Amansie West NCCE engages citizens on peaceful election

Manso Nkwanta (Ash), Nov. 30, GNA – The Amansie West District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organised a peace walk to encourage the public to embrace peace ahead of the 2024 general election.

The walk which heralded a parliamentary candidate dialogue put together by the NCCE and the Church of Pentecost attracted participants from basic and senior high schools, security agencies, and the public.

Led by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Oscar Asare Andoh, participants walked through the principal streets of Manso Nkwanta with peace messages and ended at the Lorry Station where the dialogue was held.

Mr. Aziz Laryea, the District Director of NCCE, explained that the dialogue sought to bring together parliamentary candidates and the electorate to discuss matters of concern to voters which emerged from research conducted by the Commission.

It also offered a platform for parliamentary candidates to share their vision with the electorate as they sought their mandate to represent them in parliament.

This, according to Mr. Laryea, was to facilitate a healthy discourse between the candidates and the electorate not only to promote participatory democracy but also foster peace in the constituency.

The DCE applauded the NCCE and the Church of Pentecost for the laudable initiative which he said was critical to maintaining peace in the constituency.

He stressed the need for dialogue to be part of the lives of citizens beyond the election, saying that it was the way to go in ensuring sustainable peace irrespective of elections.

“This is what we can do as citizens to preserve and protect the peace of our nation because we have only one Ghana,” he added.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr. Oppong Agyekum, the District Police Commander, assured the gathering that the Police would always be ready to provide protection and to help maintain peace.

He, however, entreated citizens to avoid any act of violence because the Police would not relent in enforcing law and order throughout the electoral process.

Rev. Evangelist Yankey, the Resident Minister of Manso Nkwanta Church of Pentecost, expressed his profound gratitude to all participants for availing themselves for such an important event.

Mr. Sammy Adjei, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate who was the only contestant that showed up, pledged his commitment to peace and urged his opponents to do same.
