Adzato (VR) Nov 16, GNA – Mr Abraham Apterous Lumor, the Assembly Member for Adzato Electoral Area in the Anloga District of the Volta Region, has organised quiz competition for basic schools within the area to promote teaching and learning.
The quiz competition was kingly contested by four Basic Schools-Adzato Roman Catholic Basic School, Akplorfudzi Evangelical Presbyterian Basic Schol, Kpordui Basic and Sodzi Basic school.
Mr. Lumor, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, stated that other aims of the competition were to inculcate a learning spirit into the upcoming younger generations to uplift the standard of education in the area.
“I have realised that the standard of education in my area, herem is declining gradually, and this approach, l think is one of best mechanisms to awaken the learning spirit in the students,” he stated.
He further noted that the competition which was organised for the first time in the area would be an annual event to enable all students for full participation to promote teaching and learning as well as better Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results.
He said that students competed in subjects, which include English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Social Studies, Current affairs and Ewe Language.
Mr Lumor said: “A trophy, an undisclosed amount of money, school bags, a medal, a certificate, textbooks, exercise books, a copy of 1992 Constitution of Ghana, mathematical sets, pens, sharpeners and erasers are some of items we gave to each contestant.”
He commended individuals, philanthropists, group of entities and others for supporting the event in various forms for a successful competition that would change the attitude and boost learning of students.
Meanwhile, Sodzi Basic School, Akplorfudzi Evangelical Presbyterian Basic schools emerged first and second at the competition after accumulating 60 and 36 points, respectively.
Adzato Roman Catholic Basic school placed third with 31 points whilst Kpordui Basic school came fourth with 26 points.
Some teachers and students GNA engaged after the quiz competition expressed gratitude to the organisers and appealed for more sponsorship to expand the quiz to other areas.
Other students pledged to study harder to win more awards during the subsequent events “since we are motivated by the moves by the assembly member.”
