Sege, Nov 09, GNA – Mr Sampson Tetteh Kpankpah, the Ada West District Chief Executive, has encouraged farmers in the district to put more effort into farming as the assembly is training local workers to build dams to facilitate all-year-round farming.
He said this was aimed at making the district a food-producing hub for the country.
Speaking at the 40th Farmers’ Day awards ceremony, Mr. Kpankpah explained that the dams would provide farmers with water for irrigation to help them grow more crops and food, especially during the dry season.
The theme for this year’s event was “Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security,” reminding farmers of the need to adapt to the changing climate.
“We must build farming systems that can handle climate challenges while ensuring we have enough food for our communities,” he said.
He also shared the Assembly’s commitment to helping farmers and improving food security in Ada West, noting that the dam was part of a larger plan to create sustainable solutions for farming.
“Our goal is to create a canal from Aveyime to Sege to improve farming.”
Mr. Ebenezer Ozor was adjudged the overall best farmer of the district for his hard work, innovation, and contributions to farming in the district, which served as an example to other farmers.
He received a refrigerator, spraying machine, cutlasses, Wellington boots, fertiliser, organic substances, and a certificate as his award.
Other award winners include Madam Akoto Hannah Adaba, who was given the district’s best fishmonger award, and Mr. Evans Asigbey, district best crop farmer, among others.
