Ada, Nov. 11, GNA – Superintendent of Police Andreas Kojo Mifetu, Ada East District Police Commander, has affirmed that Ada has a long-standing reputation for electoral peace.
Superintendent Mifetu stated that his affirmation was based on his experience and observation of the electoral process over the years in the area.
He cautioned residents and political parties in the area against engaging in misinformation and disinformation, as such acts had the potential to incite conflict.
He said this during a peace walk organised by the Ada East Local Council of Churches at Lenobinya, Big Ada.
The event, aimed at fostering peace and unity among the people of Ada, brought together stakeholders, showing their commitment to sustaining the district’s reputation for tranquility.
The peace walk was attended by representatives from the Ghana Immigration Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Police Service, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), the Electoral Commission, clergy, and media joining forces in a symbolic demonstration of unity.
Participants holding placards with inscriptions such as “Ada Needs Peace,” “Hate Doesn’t Make Ghana Great,” “Choose Peace, Not War,” “Ghana First,” and many others processed from Lenobinya to the Presbyterian school park and ended at Tetsonya, a suburb of Ada, accompanied by a lively brass band.
The Police commander urged the public to verify the accuracy and sources of information, particularly on social media, which had become a powerful yet volatile medium.
He cautioned that while security officers were prepared to uphold peace, they would not tolerate any criminal acts, stressing that they would enforce the law impartially.
Ms Faustina Blewusi, the Ada East NCCE Director, encouraged citizens to exercise their right to vote, underscoring the importance of basing votes on issues rather than monetary influence.
Ms Blewusi, traditionally known as Mama Megbenya II, added, “Do not let anyone buy your vote for GH₵20 or GH₵50. Vote thoughtfully on issues that matter,” she appealed.
Mr Renald Amartey-Fio, Ada East Electoral Officer, assured the gathering of the Commission’s impartiality, stating that “our mission is to uphold democracy. We are committed to ensuring peace, justice, and transparency in the upcoming December 7 elections.”
