Lente-Wute (VR), Nov 24, GNA – Mr Felix Akakpo, an Accra-based businessman, has handed over a newly constructed police station to his community, Lente-Wute in the Ketu South Municipality.
The new building has a charge office, male and female detention cells, offices for the Station Officer and Criminal Investigation Department, an armoury, ultra-modern washrooms and five residential self-contained rooms for Police personnel.
Additionally, he handed over a newly constructed Junior High School (JHS) block with ancillary facilities to add to the primary school block he constructed for the community years ago, to enable children of school-going age there receive quality formal education.
Speaking at the commissioning of the projects, Mr Akakpo said the decision to construct the two vital infrastructure projects was driven by his passion for community development and commitment to improving the lives of citizens.
“Firstly, the police station represents a significant investment in the safety and security of our community. This modern facility will provide our dedicated police officers with the necessary tools and resources to effectively prevent and detect crime, apprehend offenders and to maintain public law and order, safety of persons’ lives and properties, and ensure justice is served.
The JHS block embodies our collective aspiration for quality education. This facility will provide a conducive learning environment for our children, empowering them to reach their full potential and become future leaders.
Mr Akakpo encouraged everyone to strive for excellence, support one another and work towards a brighter future, saying the commissioning of the projects was “a testament to what could be achieved through individual initiative, community spirit and collaboration.”
In an address read on behalf of Dr George Akuffo Dampare, Inspector General of Police, DCOP Andrews Boadu-Ekumah, Volta Regional Police Commander, commended Mr Akakpo and underscored the strategic importance of the station in combating crime and maintaining law and order along the border town.
He assured the community of the Police Service’s commitment to safeguarding the facility and tasked the Divisional and District Commanders for the area to ensure personnel posted there maintained the station as well as worked harmoniously with the community.
Mr Francis Yao Agbemadi, Volta Regional Director of Education, said management of the Regional and Municipal Education Directorates saw the selfless dedication of Mr Akakpo to the education and empowerment of the youth of the community, stressing, education remained a powerful tool for transformation.
Mr Maxwell Koffie Lugudor, Municipal Chief Executive of Ketu South, through his representative, Mr Prince Owusu Peprah thanked the donor for his kind gesture and assured of the Assembly’s readiness to support the station while urging the Police to “uphold the rule of law” and foster a peaceful relationship with the Lente-Wute community.
Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Member of Parliament for Ketu South, congratulated Mr Akakpo for his exceptional contribution to the community, especially in personally funding the projects.
Torgbui Adzonugaga Amenya Fiti V, Paramount Chief of Aflao Traditional Area, was proud of Mr Akakpo, who is also a youth chief (Torgbui Tenuvi II) in the traditional area for showing the way in giving back to society.
He called on community members to appreciate his selflessness by sending their children to school and taking interest in their education while asking them to embrace the new police station.
Community members Ghana News Agency spoke to said Mr Akakpo’s generosity to Lente-Wute was unmatched.
The colourful twin event, interspersed with cultural performances, saw citations presented to individuals to honour their selfless dedication.
Also, Chief Superintendent Samuel Odame, Ketu Divisional Police Commander, District/Unit Commanders from the Ketu Division, officials from the Municipal Education Directorate and Aflao chiefs attended the event.
