40th Farmers’ Day celebration slated for November 8


Accra, Nov. 01, GNA – The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has slated November 8 for the celebration of this year’s National Farmers Day in Accra.


The shift of the celebration Day from the usual December 1, to November 8, is due the 2024 General Election, which will be on December 7, a statement from the Ministry copied to the Ghana News Agency said.


This year’s event, which will be the 40th edition, will be on the theme, “Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security”.


The statement said the event would highlight Ghana’s commitment to adopting agricultural practices that effectively addressed the challenges posed by climate change.


It said ahead of the main Day, the government and its partners would host a 5-day National Agricultural Fair, Agrifest Ghana 2024, from 4th to 8th November.


The event, the statement said, would showcase Ghana’s rich agricultural heritage and serve as a vibrant platform for knowledge exchange and innovation, bringing together farmers and stakeholders from across the country.


The celebration will be climaxed with a National Awards Night Ceremony on November 8, where President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, would honour outstanding farmers in 16 award categories.


The categories include Overall National Best Farmer, National Best Livestock Farmer, National Best Female Farmer, and National Best Physically Challenged Farmer.


The event will celebrate the invaluable contributions of farmers to the nation’s agricultural sector.


The National Farmers’ Day celebration will serve as a vital platform for promoting dialogue and innovation, encouraging farmers and stakeholders to adapt to environmental changes and adopt best practices in agriculture.


The statement urged the public to join in celebrating the country’s farmers, whose resilience and dedication were essential to the nation’s food security and economic growth.
