2024 Election: Journalists and politicians urged to dwell on facts

Keta (VR), Nov 6, GNA -Togbi Hatsu III,”Dufia of Dzita” in the Anloga district of the Volta Region has urged journalists to be factual and engage in accurate reportage during the 2024 general election to safeguard the country’s peace.

He said accurate and excellent reportage of figures from various polling and coalition centres during the election would create less tension among electorates.

Togbi Hatsu, who is also the Anloga District Director of the NCCE, said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, during a day’s seminar for journalists and political party activists on best forms of reporting ‘politically related stories,’ held at Keta.

He said that the public should be educated on how to disseminate information properly.

“The political serial callers should be mindful of the kind of information they should put on the airwaves in order not to create tension and l appeal to all journalists especially those on radio to keep controlling those bad thoughts,” he stated.

He further cautioned journalists to be professional in all reports and recheck every piece of information before putting it into public domain to prevent any wrong communication that may trigger unforeseen war.

Togbi Hatsu also urged eligible voters to vote wisely for the rightful candidates and avoid taking bribes.

Togbi Goh ll, a member of Volta Regional Peace Council, told the GNA that their outfits have conducted more consultations and educations to the majority of the public about the importance of maintaining peace in the country in all situations.

“War is a big curse, and l believe no Ghanaian will be willing to undertake such risk to jeopardise the life of millions of other people just because of election. Elections are for peace, people should go out, vote and move on with life whatever the situation may be.”

Mama Ketor IV of Anloga, the Vice Chairperson of Keta-Anloga Inter-party Dialogue Committee (IPDC), said that the word would be monitoring Ghana closely during the 2024 election and public should once again prove and demonstrate the democracy enjoyed over the years.

Mr Sarki Garba Hashimu, a Muslims Head at Keta, also appealed to the youth, eligible voters and public to avoid mingling with politician who do not preach or promote peace in the election.

He charged all Muslims youth not to entertain any form of violence under any circumstances and “any of our youth who would involve in any unpleasant situation of violence would be dealt with severely.”

Some journalists and politicians, GNA, engaged after the seminar expressed gratitude over the exercise and urged the public to comply to maintain peaceful coexistence among all.
