Accra, Oct. 20, GNA – The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released provisional results of the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for Schools and Private Candidates.
A statement issued by WAEC in Accra said subject results of 377 school candidates and three private candidates had been cancelled for bringing foreign materials into examination halls or colluding with other candidates.
According to the statement, 41 school candidates and one private candidate had their entire results cancelled.
The Council said it was withholding the entire results of 33 school candidates and three private candidates.
“Meanwhile, some subject results of candidates from 149 schools have been withheld for reported irregularities. The withheld results may be cancelled or released based on the outcome of investigations.”
According to the Council, the irregularities were detected following the completion of investigations during the conduct of the examination and marking of scripts by the Final Awards and Examiner’s Appointment Committee for BECE at its 35th Meeting held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, which approved the various sanctions.
The Council said it would dispatch the results of school candidates to their respective schools through the Metropolitan/ Municipal/ District Directors of Education.
“The results for private candidates can be accessed at the Council’s website www.waecgh.org.
“School candidates who so desire, may also access their results online at the Council’s website,” the statement said.
The Council cautioned all stakeholders to be wary of fraudsters promising to upgrade results for a fee.
“Candidates are to note that WAEC results are secured and can be authenticated.”
The statement commended various stakeholders, especially the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, the Security Agencies, Heads of Schools, Supervisors, Invigilators, Examiners and all who supported it in the successful conduct of the investigations.
WAEC said a total of 569,236 candidates, comprising 282,703 males and 286,533 females from 19,505 participating schools entered for the school examination.
The BECE for private Candidate recorded a total entry of 1,390 candidates out of which 750 were males and 640, females.
Out of the total number of candidates who entered for the examination, 57 were absent.
