Vacant seats case: Supreme Court dismisses objection for panel member’s recusal

Accra, Oct 30, GNA – The Supreme Court has overruled an objection seeking a recusal of a panel member at today’s hearing of an application of the Speaker of Parliament challenging the injunction of the Court in respect of the four vacant seats.

The five member panel held that the matter before it was a constitutional issue and same was not based on political parties.

Mr Thaddeus Sory who represented the Speaker of Parliament held that Justice Ernest Yao Gaewu was a former Parliamentary Candidate for the New Patriotic Party hence could not be part of the panel.

The Supreme Court held further that there were other panel members who formerly belonged to the National Democratic Congress and the Peoples National Convention.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is set to deliver its ruling on the Speaker’s application challenging the courts injunction on the four vacant seats in Parliament.
