Accra, Oct 18, GNA – The University of Ghana School of Law (UGSoL) has announced the appointment of heads for three new departments as part of its strategic plan to become Africa’s premier institution for legal education.
The new appointees are Prof. Peter Atudiwe Atupare, who will head the Department of Public Law, Prof. Thomas Kojo Stephens, the new head of the Department of Private Law, and Dr. Kweku Ainuson, who will lead the Department of International Legal Studies.
The appointments were made by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, as part of UGSoL’s broader initiative to strengthen the teaching and learning of law, a post on UGSoL’s website said.
Prof. Atupare, a former dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Cape Coast, brings extensive experience in Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence, and Criminal Law, among other fields. He is a highly sought-after consultant in both public and corporate sectors and was recently named the best lecturer by the University of Ghana Law Students Union for the 2022/2023 academic year.
Prof. Stephens, who will lead the Department of Private Law, is an award-winning researcher with significant achievements, including being named the “Best Researcher” in 2022 and 2024 at the College of Humanities. He also serves as a senior partner at Stobe Law and chairs the University of Ghana’s Disciplinary Board for Junior Members.
Dr. Ainuson, the new head of the Department of International Legal Studies, is a senior lecturer and coordinator of the Master’s in Natural Resources Law Programme. With previous teaching experience in the United States, he brings an international perspective to his role. He also serves as Chairman of the Joint Examiners Board at the University of Ghana.
Dean of UGSoL, Prof. Raymond Atuguba, commenting on the appointments, said the new heads bring “great expertise, passion, and a track record of excellence.”
Prof. Atupare, speaking on behalf of his colleagues, expressed their commitment to working diligently to advance UGSoL’s strategic objectives: “We welcome this opportunity to be trailblazers for the new departments at UGSoL. We will work assiduously to justify the confidence reposed in us…”, he said.
