Accra, Oct. 24, GNA – Ghana’s men’s U20 team, the Black Satellites, advanced to the semifinals at the ongoing U-20 WAFU B Championship.

The Black Satellites finished first in Group A after a 1-1 stalemate with host nation Togo in the last group match played at the Stade Municipal on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.

Ghana’s top marksman, Jerry Afriyie, took his tally to three goals in the tournament with a superb finish in the first half, before Togo’s Bourgeous Bouraima restored parity in the second half.

The Black Satellites of Ghana won Group A with five points from three games, while Niger finished second after defeating Benin 1-0 in the other group game.

Ghana currently awaits their semi-final opponents, who might be Cote d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, or Nigeria, all of whom are vying for a spot in Group B’s final four.

Ghana would be seeking a spot in the finals to qualify for the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations, having missed out on the last edition in Egypt.

The 2025 U20 AFCON would also serve as the African qualifiers for the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile, where the four semi-finalists will qualify automatically.
