Islamabad, Oct. 7, (dpa/GNA) – Two Chinese engineers working on a power project in Pakistan were killed when a suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden vehicle into their car, officials said on Monday.
The latest attack against Chinese workers in Pakistan occurred near the international airport in the city of Karachi overnight, local police official Kashif Abassi said.
At least 17 people including several security officials were wounded in the bombing, which was claimed by the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) rebel group, Abassi said. The group has attacked Chinese interests in the past.
Beijing is undertaking an estimated $60-billion infrastructure project to link its Xinjiang region with the Arabian Sea through a network of highways and railways through Pakistan.
Global powers including the US and the regional players like India have been voicing their opposition to the project.
Several rebel groups in Pakistan’s south-western province of Balochistan oppose the Chinese project, calling it a tool to exploit their resources and land.
