Residents escape unhurt, as VRA transformer catches fire in Sunyani   

Sunyani, Oct. 3, GNA – Some residents at Area Two, part of Sunyani escaped unhurt when the main Volta River Authority (VRA) Transformer lines in the neighbourhood caught fire in the early hours of Thursday. 
 
The incident led to intermittent power outages and a total blackout in parts of the municipality, and as at the time of filing this around 1000hours, personnel of the VRA were working on the transformer line to restore power. 
 
During a visit, the Ghana News Agency gathered from residents that they heard an explosion and came out of their rooms only to notice that the transformer was on fire. 
 
Attempts by some of them to bring it under control were unsuccessful however the timely arrival of the personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) saved the situation. 
 
No casualty was reported. 
 
In an interview, Mr Abdul Issah, the Assemblyman for the Zongo Electoral Area told the GNA the cause of the fire remained unknown for now and commended the GNFS for the quick response. 
 
Meanwhile, some of the residents told the GNA they were shocked about the incident, and expressed the hope that the VRA would work on the transformer and restore power to the neighbourhood.
