Prudential Bank, Catholic Church organise breast screening for Takoradi residents

Takoradi, Oct. 03, GNA – The Takoradi Branch of Prudential Bank in collaboration with the Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic cathedral, have organised a free breast screening for residents in Takoradi as part of this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness month celebration. 

Breast Cancer Awareness Month, commemorated in October every year across the world, is to increase awareness of early diagnosis and treatment of the disease and give adequate care for those suffering from it. 

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mrs Jamilla Disu, Marketing and Corporate Affairs, Prudential Bank, said the screening was to educate individuals on how deadly the disease could be, and give more information on breast cancer and its related effects on human beings, especially women. 

She stated that the screening was not only meant for women, but also included men alongside other health check-ups like blood pressure and sugar level. 

Reverend Father, Lawrance Krah, the Cathedral Administrator commended the bank for partnering the Church to take up such an important exercise, noting that breast cancer could be deadly if not detected early. 

He in that regard, urged parishioners and non-parishioners no patronise the exercise so as to know their breast cancer status to enable them to go for early treatment.  

Mrs Mary Aidoo, a trader who benefited from the exercise, urged all women to regularly screen their breast to prevent future complications. 

She also encouraged them to check their diets, exercise, and desist from lifestyles that could put them at risk of contracting breast cancer. 

Others who went through the screening expressed gratitude to the Church and Bank for their benevolence towards humanity and wished that it continued often to save lives. 

They also encouraged the community members to take advantage of every health screening exercise done within the metropolis and prioritise their healthcare needs. 

 The team is targeting to screen more than 400 individuals.
