Accra, Oct. 30, GNA – The Supreme Court has set November 11, 2024, to deliver its judgment on the substantive suit filed by Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Mr. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, against the Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, and the Attorney-General.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin filed a writ seeking a proper interpretation of Article 97 of the 1992 Constitution, following the Speaker’s declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant.
The declaration came after three MPs from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus and one MP from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus filed nominations to contest as independent candidates in the upcoming December 7 parliamentary election.
Mr Afenyo-Markin is also seeking the Supreme Court to restrain Parliament from acting on the eligibility of four MPs.
