Obuasi (Ash), Oct. 11, GNA – In his quest to enhance academic work in basic schools across his constituency, the Member of Parliament (MP for Obuasi East, Dr. Patrick Boakye Yiadom, has been supplying furniture to various schools lacking adequate furniture.
A total of 600 desks including 50 KG desks, 400 dual desks, 100 mono desks and 50 teachers’ table and chairs, have been donated to deserving schools grappling with furniture deficit in his latest intervention.
Over 1000 pupils and teachers are benefiting from the gesture which is seen as a pressing issue among various schools in the constituency.
Dr. Boakye Yiadom said the donation formed part of his efforts to enhance teaching and learning in schools, stressing that the only way the country could develop was to invest more in education.
“What I have been doing in education here aligns with the vision of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to make education accessible for all,” he said.
The MP who is also seeking re-election said he had built a lot of classroom blocks, supplied computers and textbooks, constructed boreholes and implemented a lot of programmes and interventions in the area of education in the district.
He said schools in the constituency had witnessed tremendous improvement in student enrollment due to the impact of the interventions he had rolled out throughout his tenure of office and promised to do more when re-elected.
Mr. Kwabena Owusu Nketia, the Obuasi East District Director of Education, commended the MP for his unwavering support towards education.
He said despite the efforts of the MP and the District Assembly, there was still more to be done especially in classroom infrastructure, highlighting that congestion in some schools was inimical to effective teaching and learning.
“What I have realised in the district is that most of the parents are withdrawing their wards from private schools to public schools accounting for a surge in enrollment in these schools, thereby resulting in overcrowding,” he stated.
