Rabat, Oct. 27, GNA- French President Emmanuel Macron, and his wife, Brigitte Macron, will embark on a state visit to Morocco from Monday, October 28 to Wednesday, October 30, 2024.

The French President’s three-day visit, the second since 2018, is at the invitation of King Mohammed VI.

King Mohammed VI in July this year invited Macron for an official visit after Paris announced a position in support of Morocco’s sovereignty over the disputed territory of Western Sahara.

A statement issued by Morocco’s Ministry of the Royal Household, Protocol, and Chancellery, said Macron’s visit “reflects the depth of bilateral relations, founded on a strong and deeply rooted partnership, fuelled by the shared will of both Heads of State to further strengthen the multidimensional ties between the two countries.”

The Palace added that the visit presented an opportunity for “a renewed and ambitious vision covering several strategic sectors”.

The two countries are expected to renew their partnership and strengthen their economic ties, particularly in the sectors of renewable energies, new technologies, agriculture, education, and culture.

In May this year, France and Morocco signed a Partnership Roadmap in the Agricultural and Forestry sectors, to facilitate sustainable transition and build climate resilience in those sectors.

French engineering company, Egis, earlier this year reached an agreement with Morocco’s national railway operator, ONCF, to construct a 430km high-speed railway in Morocco between Kenitra and Marrakech, ahead of the 2030 World Cup to be hosted by Morocco.

Speaking to MAP News, the official news agency of the Kingdom of Morocco, ahead of Macron’s visit, Mr Christian Cambon, French Senator, and the Special Envoy to the President of the French Senate for International Relations, said the French President’s visit would be an opportunity for the two countries to lay the groundwork for a “renewed partnership, decidedly focused on the future.”

“Macron’s visit to Morocco will be a great moment to celebrate our renewed, resilient and enduring partnership,” he added.
