Tema, Oct. 07, GNA- The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), in collaboration with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), is to roll out the second phase of training for electrical engineers in Africa.
The training, dubbed “Electrical Engineers Training for African Countries,” would take place from October 7 to November 22, 2024, at the ECG Training Centre in Tema.
The training programme is aimed at equipping the engineers and their institutions to improve their service of provision of reliable and sustainable power supply to customers and industries.
The first phase of the training had participants from Liberia, Sierra Leone, the Gambia, and Ghana.
Mr Oda Ryotaro, a Senior Representative of the JICA Ghana Office, at the programme launch, said that JICA was working towards a society in which all people have access to stable, affordable, clean energy and resources for their productivity.
He said his outfit intended to provide grant aid for the construction of a new substation in Tamale, which is scheduled to commence in 2025, with similar support for projects in Kenya, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Tanzania.
He noted that in an effort to share knowledge and experience, the first phase of the training programme, which was held last year, was successful, laying the foundation for the second phase, which has expanded the list of participating countries.
Mr Ryotaro stated that the training was to improve the skills of technicians in the maintenance of electrical equipment and engineers in distribution planning, design, system protection, and control.
Mr Godfred Mensah, the Director of the ECG Training School, expressed gratitude to JICA for their support and urged trainees to take the opportunity seriously while building social networks with each other.
