Israel bombs mosque next to hospital in Lebanon, injuries reported

Beirut, Oct 5, (dpa/GNA) – The Israeli military on Saturday, said it bombed a mosque next to a hospital in southern Lebanon, claiming that it contained a hidden Hezbollah command centre.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a post on X, that the strike had targeted “Hezbollah terrorists” using the mosque near the Salah Ghandour hospital to plan attacks against Israel.

Lebanon’s NNA news agency reported that the hospital in the southern town of Bint Jbeil, was also hit in the attack on Friday, with at least nine medical staff injured.

The hospital’s staff was reportedly evacuated, although it is unclear what happened to the patients, amid Israel’s ground offensive in the region.

At least four hospitals in southern Lebanon have already ceased operations due to the fighting, while others are said to be overcrowded.

The IDF said “notices were sent to residents” warning them to leave the area, ahead of the latest strike.

It also said “conversations were held with significant parties in the villages, where the IDF identified Hezbollah utilizing hospitals in defiance of the laws of armed conflict.”

The information could not be independently verified.
