Accra, Oct. 21, GNA – Ghana’s youth boxing team, the Black Rockets, have departed for Montenegro for the IBA Youth World Tournament in Montenegro.

The youth boxing championship, set to take place from October 22 to November 3, 2024, would feature over 660 boxers from around the world.

Ghana would be represented by six talented boxers: Francis Quartey, Desmond Pappoe, Levy Ankrah, Ebenezer Ankrah, Mathias Ashitey, and George Dowuona.

Alhaji Dauda Fuseni, Vice President of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), would be leading the team to the championship together with coach of the Black Rockets, Charles Quartey.

Coach Charles Quartey said before their departure that the Black Rockets were being prepared for future championships including the next Olympic Games.

“These boxers were specially selected for the Montenegro Tournament, and they have been training for over a year.

“We have received many invitations for various championships, but we were unable to attend, but this time we thank our Vice President Dauda Fuseni for his marvellous effort in seeing that we made it,” he said.

The Black Rockets aged between 16 and 18 years, would be hoping to make Ghana proud following the disappointment at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where there was no representation in boxing.
