Kumasi, Oct. 24, GNA – Civil Society Organisations (CSO), led by the Local Governance Network (LOGNet) are advocating for strengthened social cohesion in Ghana ahead of the 2024 general election.
It said elections often led to division, uncertainty, and harmful rhetoric that could undermine social cohesion, stressing the need to foster social cohesion and unity in Ghanaian communities as the nation heads to the polls on December 7.
This was contained in a press statement signed by Mr. Christopher Dapaah, National Coordinator of LOGNet, and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi.
The statement urged all Ghanaians, especially leaders of political parties to refrain from tendencies that could disturb social cohesion which is paramount for a peaceful and prosperous Ghana.
It mentioned monetisation of the election, vigilantism, electoral violence, media sensationalism, politics of ethnicity, and disrespect for authority as some of the issues that must not have a place in our body politics.
These, according to the release, must give way for inclusive development, social justice, and equality as well as citizen engagement to make progress as a nation.
“By working together, we can create a Ghana where social cohesion is the norm, and everyone feels valued and included.
Let us strive to maintain our country’s reputation as a beacon of democratic development in Africa,” the statement concluded.
