Accra, Oct 29, GNA – Madam Akua Donkor, the leader and presidential candidate of the Ghana Freedom Party in the forthcoming 2024 Election, has been reported dead.
She passed away on Monday at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital) where she was receiving medical treatment for an undisclosed condition.
She was 72.
Akua Donkor was the third candidate on the ballot and one of only two women among the 13 presidential candidates in the upcoming December 7 election.
Born in Afigya Kwabre in the Ashanti Region, she worked as a cocoa farmer and trader before entering politics in 2012, with the ambition of becoming Ghana’s president.
Akua Donkor campaigned on promises to improve the socio-economic well-being of Ghanaians. Her key proposals included free primary and secondary education and the removal of import taxes, which she argued could be achieved through the prudent use of Ghana’s resources, such as gold, cocoa, shea butter, and salt.
She also questioned Ghana’s reliance on imported refined oil, calling it absurd, especially as Ghana is an oil-producing nation with its own refinery.
