Sunyani, Sept. 30, GNA-The Ahafo Mines Workers Touching Lives, a Non-governmental Organization (NGO) has handed-over a mechanised borehole facility costing GH¢42,000 to five siblings living with disabilities for commercial purposes.
According to Pastor Joseph Akongya, the Chief Executive Officer, the NGO worked to impact and improve the socio-economic livelihoods of vulnerable people in society.
The beneficiaries, residing in Sunyani, include Fred Kwarteng, 43-years and mobile phone repairer, Benjamin Kwarteng, 41, years and a mechanic and Isaac Awuah, 39 years, unemployed, Emmanuel Yeboah, 35 years and David Gyan, 32, years, and all Senior High School graduates.
Speaking at a short ceremony in Sunyani, Pastor Akongya said the donation followed a request by the PwDs and expressed the hope that facility would help improve their socio-economic livelihoods.
He advised the public to desist from stigmatizing the PwDs, saying “everybody is a potential PwD” and called on wealthy individuals and other NGOs and philanthropic organisations to support in the upkeep of the PwDs, especially children.
Madam Rebecca Asantewaa, a caretaker, said the siblings lost their parents somewhere 1998, saying since then “life has not been easy at all for us”, and appealed food aid, soaps and washing powders as well as other consumables.
