STAAG urges expansion of Speech and Audiology services, calls for strategic partnerships

Accra, Sept 23, GNA – The Speech Therapists and Audiologists’ Association of Ghana (STAAG) has called for the establishment of more speech and language therapy, and audiology facilities in Ghana.

Major Emmanuel Nkornoo, president, STAAG, said, that partnership and collaboration with the relevant Ministries, regulatory agencies, Non Governmental Organisations, and other relevant stakeholders were crucial to achieving the goal.

In a communique adopted at its 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Scientific Conference, held in Accra, STAAG called for consultation on matters relating to Speech and Language Therapy and Audiology in the country.

“Our role is relevant to national matters relating to Speech and Language Therapy and Audiology, and we request consultation on such matters,” Major Nkornoo said.

STAAG also proposed the mainstreaming of hearing and speech assessments in all national healthcare interventions.

It called on all relevant stakeholders to support STAAG in addressing Speech and Language Therapy, and Audiology services in the country.

The conference also marked the launch of STAAG as a Professional Body. It brought together the Chief Director and other Directors from the Ministry of Health.

It also had representations from the Ghana Federation of Allied Health Professions, and academia among others.
