Takoradi, Sept. 21, GNA – The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has organised a general clean-up exercise for residents across the Metropolis as part of this year’s World Sanitation Day.
Mr Abdul-Mumin Issah, the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), who led the exercise said the move was part of the Assembly’s strategies to mobilise the people to ensure good sanitation and hygienic practices within the Metropolis.
He commended the residents for coming out in their numbers to clean their surroundings and asked them to regularly engage in such exercises for a clean and healthy environment.
“I want to implore residents that anytime we call on them to participate in a communal labour like this, they should always avail themselves so that we can collectively make our city a great place to live,” he said.
The MCE continued: “A clean environment is a recipe for good health, so as an Assembly, we will do everything within our power to ensure our Metropolis is safe and hygienic for the people.”
Some of the residents who spoke to the Ghana News Agency praised the STMA for organising the clean-up exercise, and said it was a step in the right direction.
Mr Michael Afful, a resident, said this was a great initiative, and showed that communal spirit was not entirely lost.
