Rotary Club of Accra – Airport East organizes free medical screening for La residents

Accra, Sept 19, GNA – The Rotary Club of Accra – Airport East (RCAAE), has organised a free health screening exercise for residents of La, in Accra.

The exercise which forms part of the club’s corporate social responsibility, was also aimed at encouraging the residents to take regular medical check-ups seriously.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr William A. Adjabui, President, RCAAE said the screening focused on disease prevention for residents of the coastal community.

He revealed that the three-day exercise which was targeted at some 3,000 residents in La and its environs, also formed part of the Rotary Club International’s activities line up for the year.

Mr Adjabui expressed confidence that the exercise would go a long way in impacting the community.

Ms Juliet Kpormegbey, a Public Health Nurse at the La Polyclinic who led the medical team described the exercise as timely and relevant.

She revealed that while the screening was for ailments such as hypertension, diabetes, HIV, and tuberculosis, hypertension topped the list of diseases and conditions detected among the people.

She said while some were aware of their condition, others were getting to know about it for the first time.

She said, those with complications were referred to a higher facility for further assessment and treatment.

She commended the club for the initiative and urged the residents to take advantage of such exercises.

The exercise also saw the provision of dewormer, condoms, and immunization for children

The exercise was done in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service.
