Sampa, (B/R), Sept. 17, GNA – Mr Oscar Kwabena Donkor, the Jaman North District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has called on political parties to use the Inter-Party Dialogue Committees (IPDCs) to address election-related concerns, ahead of the December 7 polls.
He explained that the IPDCs were set up to identify, and collectively tackle emerging issues that threatened the peaceful conduct of the General Election.
Mr Donkor made the call when speaking at the second meeting of the District IPDC, organised by the commission at Sampa, the district capital in the Bono Region.
Attended by religious and traditional rulers, representatives of political parties, and security agencies, the meeting was in line with the implementation of the European Union (EU) funded “Preventing and Containing Violent Action in the Northern Regions of Ghana”.
Mr Donkor explained that the IPDC also sought to collaborate with stakeholders, work together and promote peaceful coexistence and stressed the need for the election stakeholders to collectively address the threats of violent extremism and terrorism in the area.
Highlighting the NCCE’s 2024 theme, “Together We Can Build Ghana, So Get Involved”, Mr Donkor condemned acts of electoral corruption including vote buying, and called on the stakeholders to help tackle misinformation and disinformation.
The Deputy Superintendent of Immigration, Raphael Tuffour of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), urged the people to cooperate with the personnel of the GIS whenever there was a passenger check at the various checkpoints.
These checks are crucial in identifying and apprehending extremists, terrorists, and criminals and ultimately, safeguard public safety.
Madam Dianah Asamoah, the Jaman North District Electoral Officer, re-assured the commitment of the EC to conducting free, fair and credible elections.
The Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Samson Emmanuel of the Jaman District Police Command gave the assurance that the police were always ready to combat crime and advised the people to support personnel.
