Accra, Sept. 12, GNA – The National Youth Authority has commenced a technical working seminar on youth, peace and security, to formulate a comprehensive action plan to address youth involvement in these issues.
This initiative marks a significant step towards empowering young people to play active roles in conflict prevention and peacebuilding across the nation.
Participants included representatives of relevant government agencies, development partners, civil society organisations, political parties, religious, and youth organisations.
Naana Eyiah Quansah, the Deputy Interior Minister, said youth, peace security was launched unto the international scene with the adoption by the United Nations (UN) Security Council in 2015 (Resolution 2250).
She said that acknowledged the importance and positive contributions of young people in the maintenance and promotion of international peace and security.
In the Ghanaian context, peace and security were twin factors and a long-term process of social change, which required the engagement of every UN entity, she said.
Mr Nelson Owusu Ansah, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, said although Ghana had long been recognised as a beacon of democracy and stability, there were still some challenges that threatened the country’s peace and security particularly in some regions.
He said government through the Ministry of youth and Sports had taken bold steps to ensure that the youth boldly became leaders in peace building initiatives.
The initiative is being supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Kofi Annan Peace -Keeping Training Center, (KAIPTC), German Agency for International Co-operation (GIZ) and the National Peace Council (NPC).
