Accra, Sept. 04, GNA-The Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) will in October launch its initiative dubbed “Legacy Project” to support learning, innovation, skills and research to all healthcare professionals in its facility.

The project forms part of the centenary celebrations to innovatively enhance its activities.

Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah, the Chief Executive Officer (KBTH), made this known at the closing of the maiden Health Fest and photo exhibition organised by the hospital.

He said, “Korle-Bu is the biggest hospital that provides both post-graduate and undergraduate training to all the different kinds of healthcare personnel in Ghana.

It is important that if we want to remain relevant in future, we must be innovative. So, this centre would be one of the centres that support innovation within the hospital to always improve upon what we do,” the CEO said.

Giving a brief history of the hospital, Dr Ampomah said KBTH had been at the forefront of medical discovery and innovation over the years but seemed to have relaxed a bit.

He said it was therefore essential for the hospital to continue engaging in its medical activities in a meaningful and intentional way, hence, the project.

Dr Ampomah said KBTH saw over 250 patients a day and 99 per cent of them go back home feeling well and urged the public to do away with the notion that the hospital was a place of no return.

“I want to reassure the public that KBTH is your institution, it’s a national asset. It belongs to all of us, and it is important that we all play our role as stakeholders to make sure that Korle-Bu continues to succeed and continue to do well,” he added.

The Health Fest and exhibition, which formed part of the hospital’s 100 centenary celebrations, sought to foster connection between healthcare providers.

The platform for reflecting on the hospital’s impact and legacy also featured free health screening, and other consultative opportunities for its staff, patients and the community at large.

The CEO commended all the care and service providers who took part in the Health Fest, adding that this would be an annual event and promised to be better next year.

The celebrations commenced after the launch on October 9, 2023, exactly 100 years ago after it was officially established on October 9, 1923.

The year-long celebration, which will end in October, is on the theme: “Hundred years of leadership in quality healthcare delivery, through training, research, innovation, and partnerships
