Accra, Sept. 9, GNA – The Ayawaso West Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged the Muslim community at the Bolster Prisons Mosque to prepare them for a peaceful general election in December.
The engagement forms part of the NCCE’s drive to ensure that a well-informed voter population participates in the upcoming election to prevent violence.
Mr Edem Afeeva, the NCCE Ayawaso West Municipal Director, speaking with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview, said they were drawing the attention of Ghanaians to the existing issues such as the possible increase in misinformation in an election year, monetisation in politics, and ethnocentrism.
Mr Afeeva cautioned that the public space could be inundated with information, not all the information may be true, stressing the need for the public to be weary of how they reacted to information in the pre- and post-election seasons.
He advised the public to use fact-checking websites to authenticate text, audio, and video information they receive by checking from multiple sources, seeking objectivity and balance in information, and looking out for spelling or grammatical errors, among others.
He further urged people not to just react to information but should ponder over information well” because some forms of sensationalism could lead the country to a state of chaos.”
