Takoradi, Aug. 26, GNA – Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said that the government remains committed to deepening the freedom of the media to strengthen Ghana’s democracy.
He said quality media was critical to any democratic dispensation; therefore, it was important to support and protect these professionals to effectively carry out their work without fear or favour.
Dr Bawumia was responding to questions on how his government would protect Journalists from attacks during elections, the need for the injection of capital into some state media houses and the purported sale of some public media houses in the country.
The above questions were asked by Mrs Linda Asante-Agyei, an Editor of the Ghana News Agency and the Vice President of the Ghana Journalists Association, when the VEEP engaged the media at the weekend, to share his vision to run for the Presidency and to solicit media support for a successful campaign.
On the sale of some state media, the Vice President said there should be a clear justification for the sale of any state-owned media.
He pledged to strengthen public media houses including, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation and the Ghana News Agency for them to live up to their national responsibilities.
