Rwandan president retains most ministers in new Cabinet

KIGALI, Aug. 18, (Xinhua/GNA) — Rwanda’s President, Paul Kagame, unveiled his new Cabinet late Friday, retaining most members from the previous administration, while introducing three new faces.

According to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s office, the Cabinet, which includes 21 ministers and nine ministers of state, sees Prudence Sebahizi appointed as the new Minister of Trade and Industry, replacing Jean-Chrysostome Ngabitsinze. Sebahizi formerly served as the director of institutional matters and programs coordination at the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat in Ghana.

Richard Nyirishema has been named the new Minister of Sports, taking over from Aurore Mimosa Munyangaju.

Christine Nkulikiyinka has been appointed Minister of Public Service and Labor, succeeding Jeanne d’Arc Mujawamariya, who was dismissed last month “owing to matters of accountability under investigation.”

Nkulikiyinka previously served as the chief executive at the Rwanda Cooperation Initiative, while Nyirishema was the vice president of competitions for the Rwanda Basketball Federation.

These appointments follow the reappointment of Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente earlier this week.
