Techiman (BE/R) Aug.23, GNA-Mr Kwasi Adu-Gyan, Bono East Regional Minister, says the government has prioritised and would do more to improve the nation’s road infrastructure to spur economic growth and development.
With the implementation of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) initiative, he said all the deplorable roads linking rural to urban communities would be reshaped.
Mr Adu-Gyan said this when he handed over 89 road construction equipment and accessories to the 11 Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) in the region under the DRIP programme.
They include graders, tipper trucks, wheel loaders, rollers, backhoes, water tankers, concrete mixers, bulldozers and a low bed.
The DRIP, according to him, aimed at helping the MDAs in the region to reshape and re-construct bad roads to facilitate the movements of the people and their economic activities.
Under the project, Mr Adu-Gyan said all deserving communities would equally benefit from the sharing of the national cake, saying the huge investment being in the nation’s road sector was an indication that the government was sensitive to the plight of the people.
He said the contributions of the rural communities towards rapid economic growth and development could not be overemphasised and charged the MDAs to use the machine for their intended purposes.
Mr Adu-Gyan said the implementation of the DRIP would engage 30 operators and drivers for each district or municipality who would undergo training for the proper use of the machines.
In all about 320 operators and drivers would be engaged and trained in the region, he added, saying improved roads would facilitate ready market access for the farmers in the rural communities.
Mr George Manu, the Bono East Regional Director of the Jospong Group of Companies, owners of the Zoomlion Company Limited, a waste management and sanitation firm, said about 32 foreign mechanics had been engaged for the regular maintenance of the machines and equipment.
