Sege-Ada, Aug. 30, GNA – Mr Sampson Tetteh Kpankpah, the Ada West District Chief Executive, has urged the public to prioritise the safe disposal and recycling of electrical waste to protect the environment.
At an e-waste management workshop organised by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in collaboration with the World Bank, he said leaders in various communities must ensure that e-waste was properly disposed of and recycled.
Ghana in recent years has experienced rapid technological growth, which has brought numerous benefits to communities.
However, that growth had also led to a significant increase in electronic and electrical waste, which, if not properly managed, could pose serious
environmental and health risks to people, particularly children and the elderly.
Mr Kpankpah noted that the workshop was a vital step towards addressing the challenges associated with e-waste as it provided a platform for stakeholders to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and develop strategies to effectively manage e-waste in a sustainable manner.
He disclosed that safe disposal and recycling of e-waste would not only protect the environment but also create new economic opportunities through recycling initiatives and the recovery of valuable materials.
“Our collective efforts will lead to positive outcomes for our district and the nation as a whole. We must use this opportunity to learn, collaborate, and take concrete actions that will lead to a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future for all,” he said.
