Wenchi-Nkonsia, (B/R), Aug. 22, GNA – The chiefs and elders of the Nkonsia, a farming community in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region, have handed over a suspect to the Wenchi police in connection with a bloody clash in the town.
They have also banned the nightclub in the town, popularly known as “Adago dance” until further notice.
Alhassan Mohammed, a 21-year-old man was stabbed to death, while two others sustained knife injuries when the clash erupted between some youth of the town on Saturday dawn August 18, 2024.
Five motorbikes were also set ablaze.
Wenchi police had since deposited the body at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital for preservation and autopsy as investigation continued.
The chiefs and elders of the town took the decision after a meeting was held in the town to ascertain the cause of the clash.
In an interview with the media, Nana Adu Poku Asuma IV, the Chief of Nkonsia condemned the clash describing it unfortunate and unjustifiable, saying the suspect allegedly masterminded the clash and urged the police to be expeditious in their investigations.
He expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured the community’s readiness to assist police investigations for all the perpetrators to face justice.
Mr Tangba Kuyab, the Assembly Member for the area, also commended the Chiefs and elders of the town as well as the security agencies for their efforts to maintain law and order and to protect lives and property.
He appealed to the police to beef up security to avert further reprisals and called on the people to remain calm as the police continued with their investigations.
The GNA learnt that a clash erupted between some youths of the town and that of Wenchi Zongo, who attended the nightclub at Nkonsia.
